I am one day late, but I just wanted to let you know that Opera 9 has been released. If you are not yet set on what browser you prefer you might want to try this new version of Opera. It looks interesting even though I did not have time to try it yet. Give me your comments!

I’m using it on my mac since it’s release and I think it’s great!
I had used it before and I liked it mostly because of the simple integrated mouse gestures it offers. It makes browsing so quick and intuitive. That with the Wand (password saving feature) makes my browsing experience very satisfying.
Example: I’m browsing to my gmail account. At the gmail homepage I can see that the edit boxes for the login and password are outlined with a thin yellow line meaning Opera already knows about my login and password. I can now do a simple straight left to right mouse gesture and it automaticaly enters my login informations and log me in.
Another nice thing is the tabs management. You can move your tabs to order them the way you want. If you quit your browser while there are many open tabs, it saves them for the next time you open your browser. If you hover above a tab for 1-2 seconds, it shows a small screenshot of that tabs content. You can also save the tabs as a “Workspace” which you can switch to very easily. I use that alot at work where I have a “Job” workspace which opens every site I need to access at work. I also have a “News” workspace which opens all my news sites in different tabs.
It really is a browser to try out, even if you are already settled with one. Opera offers so many extra features such as IRC, Bittorrent downloading, Notes, etc…
Oh and as far as compatibility goes, I haven’t seen any websites with display issues yet. For example, google calendar doesn’t work quite well in Safari but does work great in Opera.

JF you prefer Opera 9 over Firefox? I had some problems adapting Firefox to be really effective (tabs savings, sessions, tab organization) but I now have a browsing environment that is not so bad (but I prefered what I had with Avant Browser & IE on Windows) … so I may be tempted to try Opera 9. Is the browser rending fine with most web sites?

I installed it … the password manager looks great and is one of the things I was missing from my old Windows Laptop with Roboform. I think I might switch from Firefox to Opera.
