Remote desktop is a good alternative to manage multiple computers within the same monitor but when it comes to using multiple monitors, mulitple computers and the same mouse and keyboard, Synergy is really great. Also the remote desktop settings I tried so far, even on local networks) do not produce a clean and fluent mouse movement.

I'm too lazy to migrate my email/messenger applications to my new workstation, so I just keep an open remote desktop session on my old one on my second monitor.

I also remote desktop to my new workstation from work, so I end up having to traverse two remote desktops in order to send email.

Note: you can remote desktop to yourself, on a different console, without trouble in win2k3.
Note2: don't remote desktop to the same console you are remote desktopping from as this will cause an infinite loop of doom, making your screen go black for about 5 minutes.
