Is negative press good or bad?

I was reading a post on Fastserver’s blog last week about what to do with good or bad press. The post was saying to “leave it alone”. Again today, I came across this really great post on Shoemoney about why you should embrace negative press. Shoemoney’s post is a must read.

I really liked that part of Shoemoney’s article :

I strongly believe that. As much as people like to label others as “mindless sheep” people will form their own opinions when they come to your site. And when you have a quality site with quality content… thats the win. Like my disclaimer says, “You should question everything. You should come up with your own thoughts and opinions and not trust some stupid blogger.” I STRONGLY believe that.

It does not only applies to web sites. I think when you believe in your product and in what you do, you should try to take something positive out of a negative critic or an unhappy customer. And what should you do with bad press? Shoemoney’s listing of the positive effects of bad press will make your wish you had someone writting bad things about you!
